Not only that, it is possible that the in-house resources may not be enough to create a sophisticated training course. It may not be expensive, but it will cost in-house staff their time.

Does that mean this is the lesser of the two? Not exactly. There are certain training courses that can be created in-house. Onboarding courses are better done internally. After all, who can train new recruits about the company’s rules and regulations, history, and achievements better than those who are part of the organization? Not only that, if the course is only small and informal, then in-house facilities and talent can suffice.

External custom training program

This option involves hiring a third party elearning service provider. What is great about this option is they have the skills, knowledge, and resources that will allow them to create the most sophisticated and state-of-the-art training courses. Since this is their business, they will naturally invest in keeping their own knowledge about the industry up-to-date. Not only that, they will make sure they have the latest programs to make the standard of their courses high. This means they may have the ability to give a lesson a new perspective – which might be just what the training needs.

However, there is a drawback. This will cost money. The custom training program will be beautiful, engaging, interactive, and the best there is, however it will be expensive. Not only that, there may be some concepts that are only familiar to employees that the external service provider is not aware of. It might compromise the way certain concepts are explained. For sure, industry specific terms and references may not be explained properly. This can compromise the elearning course.

It is best to consider your training goals and objectives before making a choice. Sometimes, if the training is huge, it might be a good idea to collaborate. That means both internal and external can join forces to create the best training course for the employees.
